The Mission of the University of California, San Diego Continuing Medical Education (UCSD CME) is to provide needs-based education for physicians and health care providers to improve knowledge, competence and performance and enable the optimum provision of health care.

About the Meeting
The Breast Imaging and Interventions Update will provide a practical overview of breast imaging and interventions by leaders in the field.  Subjects being covered include:  diagnosis of breast pathology using mammography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and contrast-enhanced mammography; interventional procedures including core biopsies of breast finding with multiple imaging modalities, current trends in patient management and optimizing your breast imaging program. Multiple case review sessions will emphasize the didactic content presented throughout the program.

Target Audience
The course is designed for practicing radiologists who wish to comprehensively review and update their knowledge of breast imaging and interventions. It is also appropriate for radiology residents, fellows, technologists, and nurses involved in breast imaging, as well as breast surgeons, oncologists, and advanced practitioners in the field of breast health care.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity participants should be able to:
  • Discuss the controversies and future opportunities in breast cancer screening. 
  • Review the current and future multimodality BI-RADS lexicon and reporting schema. 
  • Discuss how to optimize your breast imaging practice efficiency.
  • Describe the advances in preoperative location techniques, stereotactic, and US-guided breast biopsy.
  • Discuss current trends in the management of breast cancer.
  • Explain the applications of precision medicine and radiogenomics in breast cancer management.
  • Explain new technologies in breast imaging, including contrast-enhanced mammography, Artificial Intelligence, and tomosynthesis.
No special educational preparation is required for this CME activity.

Registration Information
Tuition includes all course materials, including a comprehensive course digital syllabus, daily continental breakfasts and coffee breaks. Early registration is strongly suggested. There will be a $50 surcharge for anyone registering after September 30, 2024. Minimum and maximum attendance levels have been established for this meeting. If your registration cannot be accepted, you will be issued a full tuition refund. Cancellations must be received in writing. A $50 processing fee will be applied to all cancellations. Refunds requested in writing prior to September 30, 2024. Will be issued for the amount of tuition paid less the $50 processing fee. No refunds will be made on or after that date.

Cultural and Linguistic Competency
This activity is in compliance with California Assembly Bill 1195 which requires continuing medical education activities with patient care components to include curriculum in the subjects of cultural and linguistic competency. Cultural competency is defined as a set of integrated attitudes, knowledge, and skills that enables health care professionals or organizations to care effectively for patients from diverse cultures, groups, and communities. Linguistic competency is defined as the ability of a physician or surgeon to provide patients who do not speak English or who have limited ability to speak English, direct communication in the patient’s primary language. Cultural and linguistic competency was incorporated into the planning of this activity.
